Oregonians need work!
SB 1020 needs to pass now!
Too many of us are out of work.
Oregon’s unemployment rate is far too high, among the highest in the nation, yet it doesn’t begin to convey the pain that thousands of hard-working Oregonians are feeling. Right now, too many of our fellow citizens are settling for part-time jobs because that’s all they can find. Others are taking low-paying jobs rather than go hungry.
Our lawmakers must do more.
Extended unemployment benefits, passed last week, do not put people back to work. Oregon’s state lawmakers can and must do more – immediately. One simple step they can take this month to create jobs is this: Passing Senate Bill 1020 – the Oregon Jobs Bill.
Infrastructure=Jobs.
All across our state, there are proposals to build new roads, water and sewer lines, rail lines and pipelines, and transmission lines that enable renewable energy projects. SB 1020 fixes an obscure land-use law that is stopping such shovel-ready projects and the jobs they create from moving forward. Collectively, these projects would invest billions of dollars in Oregon, creating thousands of family-wage jobs and putting people to work for years. And many of these projects will be funded without any taxpayer money.
Join the fight.
SB 1020 is supported by business and labor organizations across the state, including the Oregon AFL-CIO, Associated Oregon Industries and the Columbia-Pacific Building Trades Council.
Don’t let Salem put special interests before ordinary Oregonians!
The Senate says it wants to focus on creating jobs and eliminating unreasonable barriers to employment, but at this moment, there is no plan to act on this important bill before session ends. In fact, the easiest way to create jobs and help the economy now is to pass SB 1020.
Oregon’s unemployed and underemployed simply cannot wait any longer. Do your part to do what’s right. Contact your elected officials today and demand they pass SB 1020, the Oregon Jobs Bill, now.
